Hello

I am the author of "That's Textbook Sports" and will graduate from the University of New Mexico this spring with a degree in multimedia journalism. Soon I hope to be a sports analyst for ESPN or any sports network. More specifically in the field of the NFL Draft. I also love to watch and analyze other sports outside of football such as basketball, baseball and soccer. Anything that involves competition and sports I absolutely love.

My Story

It's Sunday evening which meant two things football is on and any homework assigned over the weekend must be completed. But at 6-years-old and with an adoration for football I was left with a hard choice. So I decided why not both. The only problem was that it seemed like every time I tried to focus on my math homework a big play or touchdown happened. What was supposed to be white noise became a distraction. Of course it had to be math homework (addition and subtraction). Simple in hindsight but a nightmare back then. At the time I struggled with math and numbers but if you asked me how many points a team has after scoring two touchdowns and one field goal the answer was as quick as Tyreek Hill.

My dad noticed I was struggling and put math into football terms. For instance I was asked to find the answer to seven minus three. So my dad asked me if a team scores a touchdown but loses three points how much do they have? In my head I said there's no way a team could lose three points but of course kept it to myself in fear of being put in timeout and of course missing the game. So I said four and the rest was history I learned math from that day on. The great part about it was I breezed through my homework and was able to watch the game.

This was the day when I learned that football and sports can teach you valuable life lessons.
